by Berenice Westmore April 06, 2023 2 min read

Crafting with kids using recycled materials has numerous benefits, both for children themselves and the environment.

Here are some main benefits:

  • Encourages creativity: Crafting with recycled materials encourages children to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to use materials that might otherwise be considered rubbish.
  • Teaches sustainability: Crafting with recycled materials helps children understand the importance of recycling and reusing materials instead of just throwing them away, which teaches them to be more mindful of their impact on the environment.
  • Improved motor skills: Crafting with recycled materials can help children develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they manipulate the materials.
  • Builds problem-solving skills: Crafting with recycled materials requires children to problem-solve and figure out how to use the materials hey have inn different ways, which can help them develop their critical thinking skills.
  • Encourages resourcefulness: Crafting with recycled materials teaches children to be resourceful and to make the most of what they have.
  • Fosters a sense of accomplishment: Creating something from recycled materials can give children a sense of pride and accomplishment helping to boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Overall, crafting with recycled materials is a great way to encourage creativity, teach sustainability, and help children develop important life skills, all while doing some good for the environment.

See below two of our favourite Easter recycled craft projects!

Egg Carton Chicks

A perfect idea to keep the kids entertained! You will only need a lot of imagination because I think you already have all the material at home. Don’t throw the egg carton away and there you have it. Firstly, you want to cut each piece of the egg carton; secondly, colour them as you prefer. Then, take two and paste them together, as shown in the picture below. Give your creativity free rein!

Toilet Paper Roll Bunnies

Here it is, finally, an evergreen among Easter decorations, it couldn’t be any greener indeed! Collect all the toilet paper rolls that you can find around the home. Gather what you have at hand: colours, coloured pieces of paper, pens, buttons and scissors! Cut two strips out of the paper roll, so you can use it as the bunny’s ears. And then, go creative with your kids!
